kathy, ali, brita

Kathy and her girls came to visit Wren and make us an amazing dinner. Wren loved my cousin, Brita, and was so calm and sweet with her. Ali liked to look at Wren, but she preferred holding our cat, Lola.

homecoming

Welcome home Wren! A day later than we wanted(which seems like eternity when you are in a hospital) we brought our baby home. Monday, April 28th, Wren arrived at her house, uninterested in much, except for sleep...

friends are family.

we have such wonderful friends. sarah, hans, mel, jon, and maia came to visit. It was fun to see our best friends after days of being in labor and then hospitalized. It was a riot watching little maia interact with wren, and we are excited to watch them grow together.

Great Auntie Jeannie and Great Uncle Tim

Jeannie and Tim came to visit and brought us some yummy Thai food (much needed after the hospital menu) and to give love to Wren. While they were there they participated in two big firsts for Wren. Jeannie cut her nails, something Mike and I kept attempting but were terrified of. Jeannie did it without hesitation, I don't think it was much different for her than clipping the kitties claws at the farm. Then, Wren gave us her first poop! Something we had anxiously been waiting for, because it was important to her ending her light therapy, and we wouldn't be discharged from the hospital until she did. Jeannie suggested we put a smear of the poop in her memory book. Wren's diaper was changed while we all laughed and cheered.

On our second day in the hospital we were informed that Wren tested positive for Coombs. What I understood from this is that my blood type, O positive, attacked her blood type, A, and would cause her health problems, like jaundice. In order to be proactive the Dr. wanted Wren to head to the nursery where she could spend time getting light therapy, in kind of a baby tanning bed structure. Mike and I threw a fit, insisting that we didn't want her to get the therapy unless she stayed in our room. Reluctant nurses eventually brought the light therapy machine into our hospital room where Wren spent the next 3 days taking her naps inside of it. At first she was really sad. She had to wear these little goggles and lay in there naked, rolling around kicking and crying, while we stood on the outside, also crying and crying. Eventually she got used to it, it is really warm and womb-like, so I think she started to even enjoy it. After a couple days they reduced her time in there, and eventually her bilirubin levels were stable and they said she could stop the light therapy completely.

first bath

Wren was not thrilled with her first bath. Our nurse, Kelly, bathed her, while we watched and took pictures. Kelly later said it was like the paparazzi was there. New dad Mikey cant seem to put down the camera around his pride and joy.
