baby in a box

On our second day in the hospital we were informed that Wren tested positive for Coombs. What I understood from this is that my blood type, O positive, attacked her blood type, A, and would cause her health problems, like jaundice. In order to be proactive the Dr. wanted Wren to head to the nursery where she could spend time getting light therapy, in kind of a baby tanning bed structure. Mike and I threw a fit, insisting that we didn't want her to get the therapy unless she stayed in our room. Reluctant nurses eventually brought the light therapy machine into our hospital room where Wren spent the next 3 days taking her naps inside of it. At first she was really sad. She had to wear these little goggles and lay in there naked, rolling around kicking and crying, while we stood on the outside, also crying and crying. Eventually she got used to it, it is really warm and womb-like, so I think she started to even enjoy it. After a couple days they reduced her time in there, and eventually her bilirubin levels were stable and they said she could stop the light therapy completely.
